Privacy Policy

Data stored on your device

To support playback and learning, Lupin stores imported audio and video, material and podcast information, transcriptions and translations, bookmarks, notes and review data, playback history, study time and settings on your device. Downloaded podcast audio and temporary data used for processing and display are also stored.

Lupin does not require its own account registration. Device backups and the services where your files and photos originate follow the OS and your settings.

Optional iCloud sync

After you review the explanation and enable sync, bookmarks' original texts, language-specific translations and notes, source identifiers, review history and schedules, settings needed for scheduling, internal playback counts and daily study time are synced across devices using the same Apple Account. This information is stored in Apple's iCloud. Original audio and video files and whole-material transcriptions and translations are not included.

You can study locally without sync. Turning sync off in Settings retains data on your device and in iCloud. Enabling it again merges both. An Apple Account change stops sync and requires confirmation before syncing with the new account. Network or iCloud conditions may delay updates.

Podcast retrieval and playback

Podcast searches and lookups send search terms or podcast information to Apple's search service. Feeds, images and audio are obtained from publishers. Followed podcasts may be updated while you use the app or through background processing permitted by the OS.

Destinations process connection information such as your IP address. These connections support search, retrieval and playback; they are not a means for Lupin to provide publishers with your learning history.

Transcription and translation

Transcription uses Apple's speech recognition. On-device processing is preferred, but audio may be processed by Apple's services depending on the device, language and recognition method. Downloading language data uses a network connection.

Translation uses Apple's translation capabilities. Downloading required language data to your device may use a network connection.

Bookmarks whose original audio is unavailable use the device's speech synthesis. Practice playback uses a material's audio segment or the device's speech synthesis. Recording your speech and microphone input are not provided.

Usage analytics and diagnostics

With your consent to help improve Lupin, Google Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring are used to understand usage and improve reliability and processing speed.

Information includes screen and feature usage, operation outcomes and processing times, usage statistics such as study time, saved-item counts and reviews, language settings, app/device/OS information and diagnostics. Diagnostics include crash call stacks and app state; performance monitoring may process CPU and memory information.

Lupin's custom events and diagnostic fields do not include audio or video, material names, filenames or material URLs, transcription or translation text, notes, dictionary words or AI explanation prompts. Advertising ID collection and ad personalization are not enabled.

Separately, Firebase SDKs process standard information such as device/OS details, identifiers distinguishing installations or sessions, IP addresses used for regional determination, and performance and crash information.

Participation is optional, and declining does not restrict features. You can change it under Privacy & Data in Settings. While you have not consented, Lupin is configured not to send these usage analytics and diagnostic reports. Stopping does not immediately delete information already sent.

External sharing you choose

After confirmation, external AI app integration passes the selected text and explanation prompt to the destination app, or copies them to the clipboard and opens the destination. If copied, you choose whether to paste and send them. Lupin does not automatically send your entire material to an AI service.

The destination's terms and privacy policy apply to information you share. Before sharing, check for other people's personal information or content you are not entitled to share.

Support inquiries

Message contents, your reply email address, app/device information and similar details are used to answer inquiries and resolve issues. Material names, filenames, material contents, recordings and learning history are not automatically attached. Review your message and include only necessary information.

Gmail is used for inquiries, and messages and attachments are also stored and processed by Google's email service.

Retention and deletion

Local data is retained as needed to provide features. Materials, transcriptions and bookmarks can be deleted in the app. Removing a material or transcription retains saved bookmarks, notes, review history, review schedules and cumulative study time. Explicitly deleting a bookmark also makes its associated learning data subject to deletion.

With sync on, bookmark deletions are reflected in iCloud. Deletions while sync is off are reflected when it is enabled again. Deletion markers are retained to prevent other devices from restoring removed bookmarks. Deleting the app alone does not delete its iCloud sync data.

Inquiry information is generally deleted around one year after resolution; unnecessary attachments are deleted when no longer needed. Records needed for ongoing support or legal obligations are retained only to the extent and for the period needed.

Deleting the app normally removes local app data, but not source files, OS backups or information shared externally. The OS's Offload App operation retains data.

Information sent to Google or other external services is stored and deleted under their privacy and retention policies. See each service's explanations for details.

Use by minors

Lupin is not designed primarily for children. Minors should review this policy with a parent or guardian and obtain consent before use. Please also review the Terms of Use. Regional age and parental-consent requirements may apply to consent for sending information.

Requests about information

For access, correction, deletion or other requests about information held by the operator, contact the address below. We confirm the relevant information and your identity to the extent needed and respond according to law and each service's capabilities. Procedures differ for local device data and information held by third-party services.

Changes to this policy

If the information handled or its purposes of use change, including when future paid plans are introduced, we will explain the changes before they take effect and update this policy. Important changes will be announced in the app or on the published page, and consent will be requested where needed.
